A Tasty Celebration for St David’s Day
Although this year’s St David’s Day celebrations were different due to coronavirus restrictions, Denbighshire Education and Children’s Services, in partnership with Denbighshire School Meals Service, organised a cooking challenge for children, young people and their families.
The competition gave children the chance to demonstrate their skills and their passion for cooking by using ingredients that are local and healthy.
Using their imagination and their knowledge of Welsh and local food/produce, children were asked to create a dish they thought St David would enjoy eating – sweet or savoury.
Competition judge, Jane Jones, school cook at Ysgol Twm o’r Nant, Denbigh and Wales Cook of the Year 2020, said: “We received an impressive range of entries representing an excellent standard of work and effort. All the dishes created by the children looked terrific, showing great use of ingredients. I’m looking forward to trying these recipes at school and at home.”
Cllr Huw Hilditch-Roberts, Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Education, Children’s Services and Public Engagement, said: “I would like to congratulate all entrants to the competition for the great work they have put in.
“I’m pleased we have been able to continue to offer engaging activities for our pupils during the current restrictions and helped them celebrate St David’s Day.”
The winning recipes have been published on the Denbighshire Curriculum Enrichment website –www.denbighshireenrichment.com
