Les Jones: supporting/dedicating his novel ‘Twelve Doors’ to the 19,000 on-call Firefighters here in the UK.

“In as one person and out as another”

We had Les, the writer of the novels ‘Twelve Doors’ & ‘Bells the FIre Dog’ join us in the Studio today to tell us a little about his background, the novel and exciting future prospects.

Les got involved in fire fighting in 1980 when he was just 20years old and worked at a large chemical company. Due to its risk & hazards, the company had its own internal fire service. Les attended training courses & became a member of the IFE( Institute of Fire Engineers). He became assistant team leader of the 8 person crew on his shift. In 1996 he became a Police Officer where he spent 20 years in both uniform & plain clothes.

In his spare time Les enjoys learning Spanish, cycling, swimming & watching Manchester United.

In 2020 Les started to write his novel. It took 2 years to produce, however he was confident and had the vision when writing it, to see the potential for it to be adapted for the screen, both as a drama over 2 series and a film.

The novel follows Leah Walsh, Watch Manager & leader of 11 ordinary men and women who drop everything and risk their lives to save others. It follows 12 incidents which is where the Twelve Doors originates from.

The photo on the cover of Twelve Doors is of Ruth Bateman, Station Manager at Rhyl Fire Station (permission was given from North Wales Fire and Rescue to use her photo & consent from Ruth also).

Exciting times ahead for Les and his team!

  1. There is a podcast & VLOG recently released with aerial & ground floor shots where incidents have occurred in the novel. The street names used are all local to Rhyl.
  2. Wrexham singer , Karl Joseph, has written and produced a rock ballad style song called ‘Mobilise’ due to be released in 7-10 days which is based on Twelve Doors. He feels it is his best work to date.
  3. Next week Les is travelling to London as a script has been produced for a TV pilot/teaser; a female actor has been chosen and filming is taking place next week: his team will then pitch it to TV Companies as a 6 part drama and/or a film!

The novel is available to buy from Amazon as a paperback and kindle e-book. Bells the Fire Dog is also available on Amazon.

Les is looking for help with his social media eg. TikTok, Instagram , producing videos . This would be ideal for any media student or anybody who enjoys social media & would assist Les greatly.
