Donation of £1000 and more as community rallies to help Sound Radio new studio build

Written by on 28/07/2020

The community has come together to help build the new Sound Radio studios in Towyn, North Wales.

Local businesses and anonymous figures have come together to help support the community radio station as it makes its move from Kinmel Bay to Towyn.  By the end of the build the radio station will have its own self contained studio, recording booth, community space and reception area, with the added bonus of broadcasting to 1000s on FM radio.

Local building contractors RL Davies Llysfaen, and local joiner/builder Dave Walmsley have volunteered their skills to help with the internal building work.

RL Davies will be working to develop the community space, complete with a kitchen.  Donations of material and timber have come from members of the community including Mike Ormond and Trefor Jones & Son Ltd

Carpets have been supplied and fitted by Lee Parry-Jones of LPJ Flooring, Kinmel Bay.

Electrical materials have been supplied by Luxar in Llandudno Junction.

Fire extinguishers have been donated by Simon Tebbitts of Fire Master and an air conditioning unit from Clwyd Refrigeration.

To add to the fantastic donations of time and materials from local businesses and members of the community we have also had an amazing donation of £1000 from an anonymous member of the public who asked that the donation be spent on the development of the radio station, a donation of which we are truly grateful for at this difficult time during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The donations come during same time that Sound Radio were awarded two grants accumulating £4000. Gwynt Y Mor Emergency COVID-19 funding awarded the radio station just under £3000 to fund equipment for volunteers to use while in isolation and £1000 was awarded by CVSC distributed on behalf of the Welsh Government to help keep the new studio COVID-19 secure.

Sound Radio are always looking to support and accelerate community change by bringing people together and back into work, as well as a reason to get up in the morning through our feel-good music shows.  But we still need funding to provide the essential start-up costs and we welcome support in all forms.

By August 3rd the brand-new studios in Towyn will be the official home of Sound Radio. If you think you can help to support the future of community radio in North Wales please send us an email below. Alternatively you can make a DONATION HERE or join as a SOUND RADIO MEMBER.
