Twenty-four MPs from across the chamber have put their name to a letter by Neale Hanvey MP , including the SNP’s Spokesperson for Culture, Media and Sport in a call to support Community Radio in the United Kingdom.
During these difficult times, local radio stations like Sound Radio play a crucial role in connecting people with local support services. Plus, so many of us enjoy their entertaining, local-focused programmes while we’re all stuck at home. Most community radio station, including Sound Radio are not for profit and really of funding grants, donations from the public and some advertising which has dried up due to the coronavirus
MPs have been asked to support the #SaveCommunityRadio campaign to help keep local and community radio stations running during these turbulent times. Support would come in a Community Radio Support package as some emergency measures announced by the Government have been welcomed, but are unlikely to fulfil the need of Community Radio.
