Pont y Ddraig turns yellow following cycling champion’s route to success
Rhyl’s iconic Pont y Ddraig will be lit up this evening (Monday) to celebrate Geraint Thomas’s achievement in winning the Tour de France over the weekend.
Geraint Thomas, part of Team Sky, became the first ever Welshman to win this prestigious race, cycling 2,000 miles in just 23 days.
Councillor Bobby Feeley, Lead Member for Well-being and Independence, said: “Throughout the year, during certain sporting events, we light up and/or change the colour of Denbighshire landmarks.
“We are delighted to celebrate Geraint Thomas’s achievement by lighting up Pont y Ddraig yellow this evening and throughout the week. We hope that the public enjoy seeing it lit up to honour this historical moment when, for the first time, a Welshman won the Tour de France.”
Pont y Ddraig is part of the North Wales Cycling Route that passes through Prestatyn and Rhyl. You can find out more information about the Cycling Route on Ride North Wales website http://www.ridenorthwales.co.uk/
