Rhyl FC has released a statement announcing that they have began a formal winding up of the company after various attempts to save the Football Club.

The company formally known as ‘Rhyl FC Belle Vue Ltd’ has gone on to say in the statement

“The difficult decision was taken by the Board of Directors after considering the financial impact of the suspension of all football activities due to the unprecedented impact of Covid 19, the unwillingness of the Ground’s owner to consider either a long lease or sale on market terms and the ongoing fixed costs with no income prospects.”

Neighbouring rivals (and Cymru North (defacto) Champions) Prestatyn Town FC have paid their respect in a tweet saying: “This is a massive blow for football in the local community & welsh football in general, We are sorry it ended like this for you all”

Prestatyn Town themselves are appealing to be granted a FAW Tier 1 Licence that allows them to compete in the Cymru Premier after they’ve been rejected following planning problems with the TV Gantry.

Over the past 12 months the club have increased their commercial activity which got the club some wanted income and were due to break even this season with the support of the chairman. But with the situation that both the club, the town and the whole of Wales are finding themselves in at the moment all income has been none existent which has made the club come to the sad decision that they have applied to be wound up. Despite the situation looking gloomy the Rhyl fans association have been working hard to ensure that they are kept informed of what goes on next.

To quote the chairman Paul Higginson “ It is a sad day for all involved with Rhyl Football Club, the town has a proud footballing history and like in 1992 I have no doubt that a very strong new club will rise from this low”.

The thoughts of everyone at Sound Radio Wales are with all at Rhyl FC and hope that as their chairman says that a strong new club will be back in Rhyl.
