New head chef and seasonal menu for Rhyl’s 1891 restaurant

The new head chef at Rhyl’s flagship 1891 restaurant is cooking up a storm with an exciting new menu full of dishes that ‘speak for themselves’.

Andreas Leisinger, who has previously worked at a number of top restaurants in North Wales during his 14-year career, said he is looking forward to putting his own mark on 1891 and is launching a new range of seasonally inspired dishes at the restaurant this January.

As well as bringing a new mouth-watering menu to 1891, Andreas is passionate about creating delicious food for the whole family and will be hosting food-themed evenings which will include special offers and family discounts.

The first of these nights include a special offer of ‘2-for-1’ on main meals every Thursday, and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday ‘Kids eat free’ with a full paying adult.

The 31-year-old, who is originally from Germany, said: “I’m excited to be here. The restaurant itself just looks beautiful and so are the views. My focus will be on simple food with a modern feel. I try not to over complicate, using five or six ingredients and letting them speak from themselves, creating flavours and making the food exciting and sometimes a bit intriguing.

“My biggest passion is about flavour and produce, to use the produce to the best of its ability and showcase flavours on the menu in the right way, that is very important.

“I want to make dishes that are good enough to make people want to come back here to 1891 and enjoy it again and again and again. As head chef it is very important to make your customers happy.”

Andreas started his culinary education at the renowned Restaurant Wasserschloss Inzlingen in Germany before moving to Scotland and then Llandudno where he worked at the St George’s Hotel, the Quay Hotel and Spa, Deganwy, before becoming head chef at Chantrey’s restaurant, which was awarded two AA Rosettes, at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno.

1891 offers high-quality food and drink in a stylish, elegant environment and is open to residents, visitors and theatre goers. The restaurant and bar is located on the waterfront at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl and is part of Denbighshire County Council’s ongoing regeneration work in the town which also includes the SC2 visitor attraction, due to open this spring, and work on the Rhyl town masterplan. It forms part of the wider regeneration in the town which has included investment from the private sector.

Andreas said: “I think the restaurant is in the right spot to do something big and be part of the big changes happening in Rhyl, all the investment. I think it is really exciting to be part of it.”

Andreas’ new menus are now available exclusively to 1891. Booking is advised to avoid disappointment – call the restaurant on 01745 330000 or book online at
