Pilot scheme for road safety at Rhyl school

Denbighshire County Council is launching a pilot scheme at a Rhyl school to improve road safety and reduce air pollution.

The School Streets project will see a temporary road closure outside Ysgol Llywelyn between 8.30am and 9.15am and 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

The closure will run between March 22 and 26 and April 12 and 16 and the reduction in traffic and parking issues outside the school gates will improve safety and air quality around the school site.

Roads around school gates are often dominated by cars – causing a danger to children and contributing to pollution levels.

The School Streets project aims to change the way children travel to school, encouraging more pupils to walk and cycle to school.

The closure will affect Trellywelyn Road from its junction with Grosvenor Avenue to its junction with Thornley Avenue and Weaver Avenue from its junction with Trellywelyn Road to its junction with Westminster Avenue and Handsworth Crescent.

Access will be maintained for Blue Badge holders and residents who live within the affected lengths of the temporary closure.

During the pilot Denbighshire County Council will monitor the scheme which will include gathering feedback from local residents and parents and guardians.
